Course description (Overview)
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to Spanish fundamentals. My goal is to provide a learning environment where every student can develop and discover their potential success. Students will be asked to make every attempt to communicate in Spanish during class.
Course Objective
Spanish is designed to help students develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in
Spanish, and to expose the student to the different cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. A
wide variety of methods and techniques will be used to reach, motivate, and challenge each
Student.
Topics covered
At the conclusion of the year/students will be able to
• Identify Spanish Speaking countries and their culture
• Write simple compositions in Spanish
• Practice correct grammar and syntax
• Talk about the following topics
Numbers and Alphabet in Spanish, Time, Greetings, Likes and Dislikes, Classroom words and phrases, Things related to calendar, Foods, our body and health, places to go after school, and celebrations. Celebrations is my favorite! We will eat in my class. Alot.
Class Presentations
Throughout the year students will be required to give oral presentations in Spanish. These presentations will be guided and rehearsed then memorized. Test scores will be given for presentations.
Student expectations and class rules
You are required to be respectful to everybody, all the time. American Leadership Acadamy handbook rules and codes of conduct will be strictly enforced. In addition,
• Show respect - Be respectful to everyone in the classroom -we are learning a new language and this can be scary during class presentations. Be kind. Dont laugh :)
• Follow all class procedures
• Be responsible for your own work and actions
• Be on time
• Bring necessary materials to class
• Turn-in assignments on time
Consequences of NOT meeting classroom expectations
-Verbal warning and/or seat change
• Personal conference
• Parent call or email
• Detention and/or parent call

Folder with 2 pockets and prong
Loose-leaf notebook paper
Plastic sleeve (1)
Composition Book
Pen
Pencils
Black Dry Erase Marker
Note Cards (for flashcards) 3 packs
1 pack flushable wet wipes
*Wish List Items:
Expo Markers, Hand Sanitizer, Popsicle sticks, items for treasure box (stuff you know your child would like) for example hard candy. Please nothing with nuts. Free homework pass will be given for students who bring me a wish list item:)
Grading
American Leadership Academy Policy will be used.
Our primary forms of communication are through email, your student’s planner, and our student information system, Infinite Campus. Students and will be provided with login information to give them access to up to the minute grade.
Make-up work policy
• Excused absences guarantee students the right to make up work for full credit.
• Students will receive two days for each day absent to make up work. If the work is turned
in after this period, you will not receive full credit for your make-up work.
Students should look in the “make up folder” to retrieve all makeup work the day
they return to school.
• If you are absent on the day of a test you have 2 days from the date of your return to
make up the test.
o After 2 days has elapsed, you are no longer able to make up the test and you
will receive a zero.
o You are responsible to request a test make up.
• Work assigned previously and due on the date of absence will be due upon return.
• If your absence is unexcused, you will not be permitted to make up any work or tests that
were given on the date of your absence. Work due on the date of your absence will be
accepted for half credit only.
Late work policy (this policy is for students who are present or have
unexcused absences on the due date of an assignment)
1. First day late minus 25%
2. Second day late minus 50%
3. Any day thereafter 0%
All those participating in cheating will receive a zero and further disciplinary action. The
following activities are considered cheating:
o Copying the class work, homework, or test of another student
o Being in the possession of the work of another student
o Allowing another student to copy your work
o Turning in work that is not your own (plagiarism)
o Being in the possession of unauthorized information during the test
o Having an electronic device out during a test or quiz
o Requesting test information on-line Ex. Posting and/or asking for test prompt
Passes / hall
If you must use the restroom I will allow you during the first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes of class. Anytime in between we are covering crucial information. If you have a condition or not feeling well dont be afraid to ask. Im not mean, just really want you in class.
Tardy policy
Will fallow American Leadership Academy tardy policy (see your planner for further explanation).
Check your grades regularly on Infinate campus. Students are responsible for tracking their progress.
